Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed a three-way summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss a possible deal to end the war in Ukraine. The proposal was reportedly raised during a phone call between Putin and Trump on October 9, which also resulted in an agreement for Moscow to sell diesel fuel on the global market.
The proposed meeting has not been officially confirmed. According to reports, it could take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would reportedly not participate, raising questions about how any potential agreement could address Ukraine’s position and interests.
The proposal comes as diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict remain uncertain. A meeting involving the leaders of Russia, the United States and China could create an opportunity to discuss the future of the war, but any potential settlement would depend on the terms agreed upon and whether the parties involved accept them.
