U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and pausing regional fighting, adding fresh uncertainty to efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
Iran had proposed a seven day roadmap that could lead to the reopening of the strategic shipping route and the resumption of nuclear talks. In return, Tehran sought the lifting of U.S. restrictions on its ports, the release of frozen Iranian funds and relief from oil sanctions.
Trump confirmed that he rejected the proposal, while reports said he remains skeptical that Iran would meet U.S. demands.
